Man Sentenced To Jail Time For Animal Cruelty

A Pulaski County man is being sentenced to jail time for animal cruelty.

Ronald Shawn Turner was accused of severely beating his dog Romeo.

Police say he was caught on videotape choking and punching the Labrador Retriever.

After a daylong trial Friday, a jury ruled that Turner should spend 120 days in jail and pay a $500 fine.

The dog, Romeo, did recover. Meanwhile, a bill has been pre-filed in the general assembly that would make it a felony to torture a dog or cat.

This is one of the worst stories I have ever read. He deserved alot more than 120 days. In my opinion someone needs to repeat the same actions on him and see how he likes being treated like that!! If you ask me he is a sick man and probably will do this again to some other poor animal. Why are there not more laws to protect innocent animals from abuse? Next time who knows the animal may not even live through it! In my opinion the anmial didn't receive any justice in this case. He deserved a year or two!!

Hello people, this was a dog! 120 days is plenty of time. You all seemed happy when the woman got 5 years for killing the baby "justice was done" but this isnt enough? Get real.

Five years and five thousand fine. Pass the new law and enforce it. I agree with "anonymous" his/their next "moment" could be directed at a person.

It shouldn't just be a felony for absued dogs and cats. It should be a felony to abuse any animal. This guy should of got more than just 120 days in jail and a $500 fine.

i hope the bill gets passed. i do, however, think that 120 days in jail isn't nearly enough for this evil jerk.

he should have gotten more than 120days in jail.any person or persons that torture any kind of an animal should never be aloud to have animals or children in there life.if they can be cruel to an animal whose to say that they would not be cruel to children or any human person.a fine is not enough nor is 120days in jail.

I do not think this punishment is severe enough. What if next time he is having a "moment" he beats on a human. If you will be cruel to animals you will be to humans also.

120 days in jail - that's it? Judges need to start throwing the book at those who abuse animals. Please support the bill presented by St. Rep. Stan Lee that would make it a felony to torture a dog or cat. Remember - violence begets violence. Next time it could be you.
