Change Of Venue Request In Murder Trial

A man accused of killing an eastern Kentucky police chief was back in court this morning.

Jamie Barnett's lawyers presented another request to a judge today, this time asking to move the trial out of Powell County.

Police say Barnett shot Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy to death back in June.

The judge did not make a decision on the request today, but the issue will be addressed during a meeting set for January 23rd.

Barnett is currently undergoing a psychiatric exam.

Obviously fellow commentors dont realize what laws protect the courts procedings. By constitution we are guaranteed a jury of our peers (if such a thing even exists). Also if the jury is partial in the case to either side or has information that might affect their decision that doesnt make it into court as evidence, then the convicted may simply file for mistrial or retrial. Read about the accused murder getting a retrial after conviction due to violating his rights to a lawyer? You want that to happen here as well? Regardless what he did he has the right to a fair trial and if taking it a few countys over makes it seem more legal SO BE IT! I costs less to try them right the 1st time. After all this is ky and killing a cop will get you 10-20 on death row till they execute you.

Some speculate that the change of venue will relocate the trial to Lexington where, incidently, citizens are more apt to believe the "magic bullet theory" proposed by the defense counsel. Taking a page from the Kennedy assassination, the defense intends to argue against rational thought and natural laws of science.

Why? Does it matter? Why waste another courts time as he is guilty and should die for what he did!

I don't understand!!!!!!! Why are lawyers so stupid??? The man killed a cop in cold blood and was wiped out on drugs. Forget moving the trail. The only thing they need to move is this punk to DEATH ROW!!!!!!!
