Officers Injured In Bar Brawl During Christmas Party

A brawl breaks out at a hotel bar in Lexington, injuring two police officers, and sending eight people to jail.

Around eleven Thursday night, Lexington Police responded to a disorder at Bogart's inside the Campbell House Crowne Plaza on South Broadway.

Shepherd Communications, based in Nicholasville, was having its first-ever Christmas party at the hotel bar, Bogart's.

Police say they responded to the hotel because there were reports of fights going on. Employees of Shepherd Communication say nobody was fighting. They say the most violent thing that had happened all night was a picture fell off the wall.

Police arrested Kathy Billings, Robert Kendall, Johnathan Portwood, Bobbie Jo Portwood, Karen Portwood, James Portwood, David Sparks, and Daniel Billings.

Daniel Billings is charged with four counts of assault, two counts resisting arrest, criminal trespassing, and disorderly conduct.

Those arrested claim police over reacted. One man says he stumbled down the stairs while talking to an officer. He says the officer told he he was resisting arrest and then took him down to the ground, cutting his face.

One officer suffered a dislocated shoulder and an injured back, after he says a woman jumped on him. He's expected to be out of work for a while. Another officer sprained his thumb.

Those arrested claim they never did anything to hurt the officers.

All eight suspects were in court on Friday afternoon for an arraignment.

Judging from the cable employee's action on my street, when asked to move his truck out of the way of the the postal service could deliver the! The employee showed his A--, so I phoned the company manager. I was told,"He's done this before"! What a redneck! A rude one at that!

Um, no, the reason they all pleaded guilty is because it was going to take longer and cost a bunch of money the employees were going to have to spend when they didnt do anything! Dont comment on stuff you know nothing about.

They all proclaimed innocence but when it came time to go to court suddenly they all plead guilty. Huh I guess the Police were right!

Po Po needs to pollish up on his or her law. The police cant deport illegals, thats a job for the federal government. Someone please tell me the last time the local police enforced federal law. THEY CANT!! Quit you're job if you dont like it. You work for the government that you hate or is it just the police you hate. Whatever, the police are always the easy target for people who dont know better or cant find anyone else to blame things on. And as far as the civilian revue board go ahead maybe they will get a better understanding of what they put up with on a daily basis. You would keep you're civilian job. Maybe you should apply for a position with the police dept. and see what really goes on. They go out of their way for the people of this town but you wouldnt know that because you are never there to see what they do.

It's a wonder the police did not use the tazer on the fat girl for climbing on the police like that. Any time you attempt to disarm an officer by climbing on his/her back could have been deadly force.

What is the problem? Some were arrested. WOW But my question is this....Why do people have to play the "black card"? My God,I know blacks were done wrong years ago and I would be the first to say so. But why dwell on it? I think they should let it go already. The Indians were the ones that got the (edited) end of the stick. They don't have NAACP and all those other types of organizations handing out to them. If I were black I would have a better education and I would not have had to work like a dog to live. There have been times in my life that I could have used help but was to proud to do it. People everywhere should lay down the grudges and the ignorance we are all human beings! Thugs, white trash, blacks, mexicans, good God we are all people. Stop the name calling it is childish!!! What gives you the right to brand these people with "Thugs" and "White Trash". They look like ordinary people to me.

Nobody likes the Police until they need one and then they second guess them when they have responded. Did the cops get a fight in progress call to the campbell house? I would say yes, and was there several intoxicated people getting out of hand? Well I would asume so since the people having the party let it get out of hand and called the Police. So now everyone is mad at the Police. Oh well get over it, thats what they do. They take care of problems that you cant handle or you let get out of hand like this Christmas party. I'm so tired of reading the COP bashers stupid comments about how the gov. and the law are all corrupt and then second guess eveything they do. Until you do the training, you have no idea what there supposed to do, I mean nobody tells you how to do your job do they? and if they did you would just laugh at them because they have no idea in what you do or even how to do it. As far as the COP and GOV. bashers if its so bad, then move to IRAQ where everything is ok.
