Man Shot By Deputy Faces Serious Charges

A man accused of aiming a gun at a deputy at the Grant County jail now faces some serious charges.

Police say once Joey T. Montgomery is released from the hospital in Cincinnati, he'll be arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt To Commit Murder Of A Police Officer.

Police sat at around 4:20 Thursday afternoon, Montgomery came into the jail, armed with a shotgun. Witnesses say he demanded to see Jailer Steve Kellam.

Deputy Brian Maines from the Grant County Sheriff's Office was the first law enforcement officer on the scene. He confronted Montgomery near the front door of the Jail. Police say he ordered Montgomery to drop his weapon, but instead he walked towards Maines and shouldered the shotgun.

Police say Maines then shot Montgomery twice in the leg.

Montgomery was flown to the University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment. There's no word on his condition.

Deputy Maines have been placed on administrative duty, as is customary after a shooting.

Montgomery will be extradicted back to Kentucky after he's released from the hospital.

This idiot got what he deserved! The officer could have killed him and rightly so, but instead he just shot him in the legs. Way to go, officer! You've done a great job! People who hate law enforcement and the job they do, have to either be idiots themselves or have broken the law. They further must feel that they have the right to do whatever they want to whomever they want which means they have no respect for anyone! This man was threatening others with deadly force, therefore, he should be grateful that he is still alive. As a taxpayer, I wish the officer would have done us a favor and killed the idiot! Anyone who threatens an armed officer, is a threat to society or just plain STUPID!

EVEN DOWN SOUTH IN THE BIBLE BELT WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BUT END OF EVERY JOKE, I CAN NEDDLES TO SAY THAT YOU WONT EVEN FIND A CIGG BUTT ON THE GOUND, BECAUSE THEY HAVE CHAIN-GANGS TO FEEP THE ROADS CLEAN. HAS ANYONE EVER WHATCHED "COOL HAND LUKE" ? YOU STARTE PLACING CHAIN GANGS OUT IN THE COMMUNITY CLEANING UP, I'LL BET WE WONT HAVE THE PROBLEMS FROM THESE PEOPLE. SO GOD BLESS THE DEPUTY FOR SHOOTING HIM, JUST THINK GUYS THIS DUMBBY COULD HAVE BEEN SHOOTING TOWARDS YOU

No= I have never been arrested for anything. But,I have seen how the people of Kentucky are treated, by law enforcement. How the inmates are sraved and forced to work slave labor to work off time they should have never been give in in the first place. How our court rooms are used for self promoton, and punishment for those not "voting right"There is no justice in our court rooms or jails. How judges dole out punishment agianist their freinds enemys. They should change the name of the state to "No Justice" Kentucky.

Andy, There is a big difference in a Hillbilly and a Redneck. You should like a law breaking redneck that has been in trouble with the law more than once. People like you are what gives the people in the mountains a bad name. Go crawl back in you hole. Way to go Officer. I'm sure everyone at the jail appreciates you for protecting their lives. I have nothing but the highest respect for all law enforcement officers...
