Catalytic Converters Stolen From State Vehicles

An investigation is underway in the capitol city after several state cars became the targets of thieves.

Someone stole catalytic converters from half a dozen vehicles at the Division of Air Quality and the Nature Preserves Commission in Frankfort.

Police say in addition to the state cars, one private vehicle parked in the lot was also hit by the thieves.

The thefts happened sometime between two and three on Friday morning.

Catalytic converters are responsible for limiting the fumes from your vehicle's exhaust. They can be sawed off in a matter of seconds.

Mechanics say depending on the vehicle the converter is taken from, it can be re-sold for between 75 and 200 dollars. Police say thieves take the stolen parts to pawn shops or recycling centers to make a quick buck.

Your vehicle can operate without a catalytic converter, but it may trigger other problems in your engine.

State police say they don't have many leads in Friday's thefts. If you have any information, please call state police.

Joe, I know a lot that are poor as well, and most of those, except for the disabled, are there by personal choices that they made. WE SHOULD NOT PAY FOR THEM. Republicans have (edited) to do with prices. Look up OPEC, look up state and federal taxes in regards to fuel, look up how the economy works. Yes, we should rebuild a country after we blow it up if we want to get to end of the means. Blow it up and leave we are back at square one with the people in power that got us there in the first place. Look up the Marshall Plan, did wonders for Europe. We bombed the hell out of them didn't we? As far as your "stupid oil" war, I actually have had boots on the ground in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Didn't appear to be a stupid oil war to me. More like a get rid of extremist Muslims war to help you sleep soundly at night. I will never lose any sleep for snuffing the lives of any of those (edited) either. How many tours have you done John Wayne? Or should it be Joe Wayne?

If Al Gore and his ilk would stop expelling all the hot air that is really causing global warming, then we wouldn't need these things anyway. Dem. L.B.J. started a war on poverty that has been dragging on for over 40 years. He thought it the christian thing to give handouts to the poor(giving them a fish/feeding them for a day), resulting in generations of families who expect them, instead of giving them what they need to provide for themselves(teaching them to fish/feeding them for life). Were they poor then for lack of money, or are they poorer now from lack of self esteem? More than 40% of our oil imports come from Venezuela, far less from the middle east, so the blood for oil thing just doesn't fly. Clinton thought ignoring terrorist groups would make them go away...didn't quiet work. But there have been NO attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11/01, the longest such time span in U.S. history. Thank you President Bush.

Being a Republican, and a Christian, I can absolutely, positively say that I did not raise gas prices or start a war. Thank you.

John... First of all I am not poor but, I know alot that are poor. I work 6 days a week. The Republicans have alot to do with gas prices! Again if Iraq didn't have oil we wouldn't be fighting. I think we shouldn't have to rebuild a country after we blow it all to hell..Defeats the purpose of blowing them up in the first place. We are mad so we will blow you up then we are sorry so we will build everything back. I bet I have more family fighting in this STUPID oil war than you!

joe, I am sure the republicans who stole those converters will donate their ill-gotten gains to the democratic party. Must be a lot of republicans in europe, as those folks have been paying 5-6 bucks a gallon for gas for years. maybe john edwards can help you out with some government assistance.
