A man arrested recently in a three year old cold case was in court Thursday.

Douglas Mabe faced a judge for the first time.

He's accused of shooting Bill Mills in 2004 on Christmas Eve in Knox County.

It was something Bill Mills' family has been anticipating three years now, to see their father's accused murderer in court.

There were a lot of tears and hugs as the family gathered at the Knox County courthouse Thursday for Douglas Mabe's court appearance.

Mabe's attorney waived his right to a preliminary hearing so a grand jury will now consider the case.

Bill Mills was found shot to death several times on Christmas Eve 2004.

His daughters say it was hard to come face to face with the man accused of killing their father.

Douglas Mabe remains out of jail on bond.

He was arrested on December 23rd three years to the day that police say bill mills was shot to death.

Neither Mabe or his attorney would talk to WYMT about the case as they were leaving the Knox County Courthouse Thursday.

It will likely be February at the earliest until the grand jury will come back with a decision on whether to indict Douglas Mabe.
