Police: Frankfort Man Tried To Meet Teen For Sex

From an Internet chat room, to a central Kentucky gas station, police track down a man they say was trying to meet a teenager for sex.

The electronic crimes section of the Kentucky State Police made the arrest Thursday morning in Frankfort.

48-year-old Fred Allen Leonard allegedly tried to meet, at a Frankfort gas station, what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex . They allegedly met in a yahoo chat room.

But when he got there, he was met by police instead and arrested.

Police tell us this is the first time they've run across Leonard on-line They say he has no record of this type of behavior and he's been cooperative with their investigation so far.

Leonard is being held in the the Franklin County Regional Jail on a 10 thousand dollar bond. He's facing a class D felony.

Leonard works for Kentucky State University. They declined to comment about his arrest.

Police will not say if it actually was a 14-year-old girl Leonard was allegedly chatting on-line with or if it was an undercover officer from the electronic crimes section of the Kentucky State Police.

when a man is caught trying to commit this type of crime against our children, he should be required by law to have what is called chemical castration by a professional for life. By professional i mean psychiatrist trained in sex addiction or pedophillia. I have read about this treatment and it did help the man in the story i read. He did not try to reoffend while taking the medication . It was given by injection at doctor's office every 1-3 months. Also therapy was required too. The laws are not deterring the criminals at all it seems!! PLEASE, tell your congressman you want chemical castration to be required by law for this sick-0s!!!!! Help protect our children!!!!!

What does it matter if it was an actual girl or an undercover officer?! What he was doing was WRONG! Meeting a child for sexual favors? I don't care if he does have a "clean" record, that just means this is his first time being caught.

The penal code needs to be changed when it comes to sex crimes (actual or intended)against a minor. One word: Castration.
