A robbery turned violent, but witnesses say the victim turned the tables on one of the suspects, and shot him.

The wife of the man who owns B & N Towing, on Lisle Industrial Avenue in Lexington, said he fought back while being attacked.

Lexington Police say around 2 p.m. Monday, a man walked into the business and acted like he wanted to sell the owner an alternator.

After a brief discussion, the owner's wife says a second man, wearing a ski mask, came out from behind a car, threatening to shoot her husband if he didn't cooperate with their demands.

"He dropped down behind the board," the owner's wife told us. "Pulled his gun, shot the guy. When he shot the guy, he fell into the shop, next to my husband. That's when they went for a scuffle because they were fighting for his gun."

She says the scuffle quickly took another violent turn as her husband continued to struggle with the suspect.

"He started beating my husband with a battery, just bashing in the head with it and my husband shot him at least two more times," the owner's wife said.

She then arrived to find her husband, William Eckler, bleeding from his head.

The two suspects involved in the robbery took off. Police are still trying to find them.

Police later found the getaway car at Maryland and Newtown in Lexington.

Police are checking area hospitals for victims who come in with gunshot wounds.

Police just have vague descriptions of both suspects.

We're told the owner of the towing company only had minor injuries and should be ok.
