10 Commandments Hung Monday In KY Courthouse

The halls of the Garrard County courthouse now look a little different than before.

A new ten commandments display was unveiled Monday morning, after the fiscal court voted unanimously to place it in the courthouse.

Garrard County Judge Executive John Wilson says this one is much different from a display that had to be removed last year, after it landed the county in court.

"The other display hung by previous administration and was a collection of historical documents, one of which was the 10 commandments," he said. "This is a different one; it is educational. It's to educate the public on the history of the 10 commandments."

Wilson says the new display chronicles the commandments from the beginning to the current day court battles. He says it shows both sides of the controversy.

Believing doesn't make something true. As to the commandments they bring nothing new to the table. No society on earth condones murder robbery or infidelity. The rest are cultural issues which makes God an egomaniac. Why not post he biblical punishements for breaking them and see if you really want to be a believer. I think not. What creator of the universe craves praise or should? This is a human emotion and I would think the creator of the universe would be bigger than that.

KY thanks for proving how backwoods your state is. If you followed the ten commandments you would not want them posted in a court house. The Treaty of Tripolli proves that we are not a nation founded on any religion. Read it and weap. As for biblical contridictions, who is Josephs father? As for the people wishing eternal pain on me, grow up!

America, congratulations on getting the government you deserve. While you continue to dismantle every protection you enjoy, I will mourn your past.

RICK IN NORTH CARLONIA......YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE READING!!! THERE IS NO CONTRADICTION IN THAT VERSE. JESUS WAS STATING IN THAT VERSE THAT IF YOU WANT TO BE HIS "DISCIPLE" THAT YOU MUST SET ASIDE YOUR LOVE FOR THOSE THINGS AND FOLLOW AND LOVE HIM TO TEACH HIS WORD. LAST TIME A CHECKED IN ORDOR TO HONOR SOMEONE OR SOMETHING YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOVE THEM OR IT. THE WORD LOVED IS USED MANY TIMES IN THE BIBLE BUT NOT HERE...IT NEVER SAID LOVE THY FATER AND THY MOTHER IN THE COMMANDMENTS IT SAID HONOR THEM. I MYSELF HONOR OUR MILITARY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY, BUT I DON'T LOVE IT. IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE SO CALLED CONTRADICTIONS, LET ME KNOW I WILL BE HAPPY TO LED YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION ON THEM, THROUGH THE LORDS GUIDANCE.

Rick, Cookieduster & Tracy: It is sad and funny at the same time: You all are in for a very big surprise! Sad because you just don't get it and never will..regardless of how many times things can be explained to you, you just won't accept it, so you turn to insults towards christians and even geography..Funny because, like a poster said below, true believers have something to look forward to and the rest....oh well..You are so quick to jump and judge, especially in something you vow you don't even believe in...no one is making you read the commandments..if you don't like it, don't look...if everyone in the country was offended by everyday things and acted upon it, we might as well live in a bubble, maybe an opaque one so we couldn't see out and others couldn't see in...all would be happy and everyone would quit worrying about "offending" others. So, until then, keep on with your childish insults, you will not affect true believers, who actually pity you!! God Bless!!!

Posting the 10 Commandments in public makes no sense since even Jesus himself commands that we break the commandment to honor thy father and mother. In Luke 14:26 Jesus says: "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple." This and hundreds of other contradictions in the Bible is proof of the absurdity of religion.

Oh my. So much time wasted on once again teaching the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Free speech is one thing, but you have no right to push your religious beliefs on to citizens as an act of government.

It doesn't surprise me to see such a blatant violation of the 1st Amendment in this State. What makes you think your little tiny courthouse is above the Constitution of the United States? It won't be long before the Religious Right has it's claws firmly entrenched in our Government. Welcome to a Fascist State!

TO DEWAYEN.....MY POINT IS THAT THERE ARE MANY MONUMENTS IN DC THAT WERE BUILT YEARS AND YEARS AGO THAT SHOW SUPPORT TO WHAT THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON. AS FOR THE IN GOD WE TRUST SHOWING ON MONEY IT WAS FIRST SHOWN ON THE 2 CENT PIECE IN 1864, NOT IN THE MID 50'S. IT WAS ADOPTED AS THE NATIONAL MOTTO IN THE 50'S. GRANTED IT HAS NOT BEEN ON MONEY SINCE THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED,BUT IT STILL SHOWS A DEPENDENCE ON GOD. ALSO I DON'T CARE IF THEY PUT A COPY OF THE KORAN IN MY MAIL BOX...I AM NOT REQUIRED TO READ IT AND WILL NOT. I WILL ALSO NOT CRY,GRIPE AND COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. AS I HAVE STATED IF I WERE TO WALK INTO THE COURTHOUSE TODAY AND A STATUE OF BUDDHA WAS JUST INSIDE THE DOORS I WOULD LAUGH AND GO ON. I WOULD NOT THROW A TANTRUM OVER IT BECAUSE IT MEANS NOTHING TO ME. THAT IS THE WHOLE PROBLEM WITH THIS COUNTY EVERYONE WANTS EVERYONE ELSE TO LIVE LIKE THEY DO. ITS A FREE COUNTRY. AS I HAVE STATED IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT SHUT YOUR EYES,SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND GO ON ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS.
