Explosions Rock Louisville Manufacturing Plant

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A fire official says there have been two explosions at a chemical plant in west Louisville and a cloud of dust is leaking from the building.

WLKY-TV reports the explosions happened Tuesday morning at BASF Corp., a plant that makes pigments for plastics. Plant Manager Scott Elliot told WLKY that all employees are out of the building, but he does not believe there is any immediate danger.

Fire department spokesman Ronel Brown says a pigment made by the company is leaking and that nearby residents are being asked to stay inside. Brown says rail traffic near the plant has been shut down.

A woman who answered the phone at the plant referred calls to a spokesman who declined to comment. Calls to company officials were not immediately returned.
