Police say a baby boy is fighting for his life after being abused.
The Middlesboro four month old was rushed to a hospital last night and police believe they know who's responsible.
The four month old baby is in the East Tennessee Children's Hospital after suffering both internal and external injuries.
Two people are behind bars including the boy's mother.
Just after nine o'clock Tuesday night in Bell County, police say they got a call that a four month old boy stopped breathing and suffered both internal and external injuries.
“By the time we arrived they had already got the child breathing again and taken him to Middlesboro ARH on their own,” Lt. David Buis said.
Later on, the infant was transferred to the East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee and was diagnosed with an internal hemorrhage.
The preliminary investigation led police to Randy J. Vaughn, 23, of Middlesboro.
“He was charge with criminal abuse first two counts of that and criminal abuse third one count of that,” Lt. Buis said.
Police say Vaughn lived in the home with the baby but he's not the father.
He's scheduled to be in court January 31st for a preliminary hearing.
Vaughn isn't the only suspect in the case. Police say Vaughn's girlfriend, the infants mother is also facing charges.
“We have charged the mother, her name is Christina Terrell, she just got charge with criminal abuse... second degree,” Lt. Buis said.
Once police charged the nineteen year old Middlesboro mom authorities took her to jail.
Authorities are not ruling out the possibility that others may have played a role in the abuse.
They also say charges could be upgraded against the two suspects.
