Police say a baby boy is fighting for his life after being abused.

The Middlesboro four month old was rushed to a hospital last night and police believe they know who's responsible.

The four month old baby is in the East Tennessee Children's Hospital after suffering both internal and external injuries.

Two people are behind bars including the boy's mother.

Just after nine o'clock Tuesday night in Bell County, police say they got a call that a four month old boy stopped breathing and suffered both internal and external injuries.

“By the time we arrived they had already got the child breathing again and taken him to Middlesboro ARH on their own,” Lt. David Buis said.

Later on, the infant was transferred to the East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee and was diagnosed with an internal hemorrhage.

The preliminary investigation led police to Randy J. Vaughn, 23, of Middlesboro.

“He was charge with criminal abuse first two counts of that and criminal abuse third one count of that,” Lt. Buis said.

Police say Vaughn lived in the home with the baby but he's not the father.

He's scheduled to be in court January 31st for a preliminary hearing.

Vaughn isn't the only suspect in the case. Police say Vaughn's girlfriend, the infants mother is also facing charges.

“We have charged the mother, her name is Christina Terrell, she just got charge with criminal abuse... second degree,” Lt. Buis said.

Once police charged the nineteen year old Middlesboro mom authorities took her to jail.

Authorities are not ruling out the possibility that others may have played a role in the abuse.

They also say charges could be upgraded against the two suspects.

Yes, what a crime against humanity that innocent people (a 4 month old child) are harmed. I wonder what caused these young adults to change from innocent children themselves, to violent, adults. Hurt people hurt people. All involved need our prayers and attention.

I think we are abusing the terroristic threating charge. I am very sure this is not the first time a parent has lost his temper, and mouth over loaded the brain. that does not make him a terrorist

stuff like this makes me test my faith in God.. all these drug addicted mother can spread there legs and have all the babbies they want to have. But when it comes to a soft hearted women that will give a child her full attn and nothing but love and not dare raise a hand to that child they cant have children. And the parents that actually take care of there children always get the social workers involved in there lives and 90 % of the time get there children riped from the home and take forever to get them back. they really need to take the time to look at the parents that dont Take Care of the children and find them homes for them. I feel really sorry for this baby and i hope and pray that he lives to take his frist step and say his first word. And i hope the mother and boyfriend get what they deserve. God Bless you lil boy

Prison is to good a place for someone who would hurt a innocent infant, but drugs is not excuse either. I know alot of drug addicts that took care of their children, this is sick.

Another day, another child I don't know and another one I will add to a growing list I pray for each day. There will not be any justice for this child because the system is set to protect the rights of criminals, regardless of who the abuser is. It doesn't matter if the paren'ts had been married, divorced or any other way they failed this innocent one. Put these people away and let's start worrying more about the victim's rights rather than the criminals right's.

I hope that this mother gets the chance to see her baby again. how could she as a mother ever look at her child knowing what she has done. (edited). wondering also if the baby was born with drugs in its system.
