Student Accused Of Murdering Newborn Told Police She 'Freaked'

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A former Louisville college student accused of murdering her newborn daughter and concealing the body faces a September trial.

Nineteen-year-old Kathryn "Katie" McCoy is scheduled for trial on Sept. 23 in Jefferson Circuit Court. She was in court Wednesday morning with her parents, but did not speak during a brief hearing.

The former Bellarmine University golf player has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Prosecutors say McCoy gave birth to a baby girl in the bathroom of her dorm room on Oct. 26, then let the infant fall into the toilet.

Police arrested the Plainfield, Ind., native after the baby was found in a gym bag.

Brian Butler, one of McCoy's attorneys, says an initial review of the evidence doesn't back a murder charge.

I am in Indiana, Jeb. Lately, our news is saturated with murderous acts against children and babies. Save your Intro to Sociology 101 lecture and stop your hysterical rant and assumptions. Had you read more carefully you would have noted the word SOME in my other post. (edited) I mean come on now, I freaked as an escuse for killing a baby is way more of a ridiculous statement to me and MANY others. Perhaps you should be more concerned with your backwoods loghouse, I mean logic, than people throwing stones at an imagined glass house.

Insanity??? Any excuse to get away with MURDER!!!A normal woman don't carry a baby for 9 months, feel it growing inside her, kicking and moving around and then "freak" when it is born and kill it.She is worse than a dog. At least when a dog has a litter of pups they clean the pups, feed them and protect them. She was no more than a....well I can't think of any mammal right off that has offspring then leaves them to die. That poor little baby. She needs a needle in her arm!!!Religion? I don't know of any religion that teaches to murder.Abstinence, yes but not murder.

It's like OMG, I freaked cuz I knew I was getting fat but I just thought it was the beer and chimichangas. My monthly cycle wasn't happening but I thought that was because it was leap year. When that thing fell out of me I was like, ewwwww, OMG what the heck was that. I didn't order a baby so I got rid of it cuz I knew it wasn't mine. Someone else must have put it there. Yeah, I freaked! (Probably not exactly what she said, but I'm guessing pretty darn close)

That is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard Anonymous. She is from Indiana so it figures?? Then if that were the case, KY must be home to some of the most condescending people based on your comment. You're opinion doesn't make sense. People are people no matter where they are from. Every state, county, city or small town has its share of rude, nice, arrogant, supportive, kind-hearted, mean-spirited, (laundry list) of people known to man. I think you may get a bunch of people visiting your glass house with a handful of stones.

Figures, the mother is from Indiana. Home of some of the rudest and self-centered people anywhere. Well, not counting New York and Boston.

What a sicko! "Freaked"?! Come on! That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! It's not like she didn't have 9 months to prepare for this! What an idiot! Maybe someone should show her what it really means to freak out with a couple of golf clubs of their own and a gym bag!

It is instances like these that Kentucky has the Safe Infants Act that lets you drop a baby off with any EMS station, firefighter, police officer, etc. up until the baby is 72 hours old. It is ridiculous to see an immature girl cause such grief due to her lack of maturity. She did not freak, she clearly had a thought process, (albeit very wrong though process), to hide the baby in her gym bag. Throw the book at her judge!

she gets of with the excuse she FREAKED OUT, I will use that excuse from now on when I get in trouble. Officer, I freaked out when that light turned red because that's the sign of the devil and I wasn't about to wait around. I freaked out when I saw all that money in the cash register and took it so nobody else would steal it. Yeah, nice defense there sweetie...GUILTY!

Sorry, this chick has some major mental issues that go beyond temporary insanity! What is the deal with women, not wanting or loving children? There is nothing more wonderful in this world than kids. Just another reason people should be altered at birth, if your responsible enough to be a parent later on, then have it undone. This has got to stop.
