State Says Extra Bridge Inspections Not Needed In Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - State transportation officials say there's no need to re-inspect bridges in Lexington.

Mayor Jim Newberry had asked officials to do more inspections after about a dozen concrete pieces fell from the Nicholasville Road overpass onto New Circle Road just before the start of evening rush hour on Tuesday. The falling concrete struck a car, but no one was injured.

New Circle Road was briefly closed, but reopened after inspectors declared the bridge safe.

State transportation officials said Wednesday that they inspected all of Fayette County's bridges after last summer's bridge collapse in Minneapolis, so there's no need to inspect them all again.
