The height of flu season is here, and health officials say central Kentucky is getting hit hard.

Officials say avoiding the flu is primarily about timing.

They say seeing your doctor within forty eight hours after symptoms begin gives the doctor a chance to prescribe Amantadine or Tamiflu, two medicines that can limit the time the patient has to suffer from flu symptoms.

They say most of the patients have one thing in common, they didn't get a flu shot.

Some people can still get the vaccine for protection during the height of flu season which runs February through March.
