Attack Victim Petitions For Safer Park

J.C. Borne was beaten and robbed at Lake Mingo Park in Nichoalsville in June, 2007. Three teenagers were later charged in the case, but Borne says the park is still dangerous.

Since his beating, Bourne has petitioned lawmakers to add lights or security. Thursday night Bourne planned to go before the Nicholasville city council for the 3rd time to ask for the changes, but he was not allowed to speak due to a technicality.

Public safety commissioner, Chris Moore, said adding lights to the park is a possible solution, but one that will cost money. He told us park patrons should go to Lake Mingo in the daylight, because it's not possible to have extra police units patrol the area and installing new lights will cost the city hundreds of dollars.

Bourne tells us he's going to continue pushing lawmakers and won't stop until changes are made.

One of the guys that did this was my boyfriend, ryan cross. He is not bad like this whole town puts it out to be. he is only 18 they need one more chance. everybody gets beat up and robbed so why punish them all this time when other people might do the same thing. its dumb.

Its a free country....Walk when you want! Carry a BIG gun like me and dont worry! I know of a half dozen people that walk in the park early or late because their Jobs forces them to. If someone is going to attack you then they arent worth saving anyway!

I love that man who was hurt in the park. he is a dear friend to me and I wish this kind of thing wouldn't happen. Its not the police departments fault, its no ones fault but the kids who did this!

im sick of hearing about people complaining about lake mingo I think that is one of the better parks in the system its always clean i have never once felt afraid to walk there i also think the skate park was a good addition who ever thought to put it there had a good idea. Its bringing alot of youth to the park which is good. I also believe that the city and/or Parks and Rec. have made alot of improvements. I never heard not one complaint when that big fence was blocking site from the rode but now that people see changes being made they want more and more this guy must relize that theres not an endless supply of money for all these lights i dont think he relizes this. im sure his argument will be well they should have done lights instead of skate park well let me see I here 1 person complaining about lights there are about 25-50 kids at the skate park daily, the numbers just dont add up. So take a chill pill and let time take its course im sure youll get your lights.

I think it is a shame that anyone would want to beat a man in the park. But he should know better then to walk in the middle of the night. is this guy related to that sheriff borne that kept wrecking his car so they had to give him a tahoe? and whats the deal with police in this city anyway? They are more concerned about their next meal and give out BS tickets then they are about public safety. I think we need a whole new department.

well first off why would you be at a park that early in the morning if your scared why not walk later in the day when its light out like everyone else in town does its stuff like this that just toots my horn 1 guy gets beatin in a park and wants to make a big stink about it. people still rob people and beat them in daylight. Does he think if there are lights up criminals will be like o know better not do that theres lights around. Besides even if there was lights the police are always hanging out at the police station not doing anything anyway so they wouldnt see it . Even if they did it will snow in arizona before they would get out and help. Ive never in my life seen a lazier police department.
