Governor Steve Beshear is taking some heat for using a state plane to campaign for an eastern Kentucky state senate race.

Thursday, the governor visited Harlan and Bell counties, where a heated race is underway for the seat vacated by Lt. Governor Daniel Mongiardo.

State republican party chair Steve Robertson said Beshear made the trip under the guise of conducting state business.

Beshear spokeswoman Vicki Glass says the governor will repay the state for any portions of the trip that were personal or political in nature.

TT, you need to reread the article. It doesn't say that Steve Robinson was on the plane with Beshear. The article is stating Steve Robinson's position that Beshear made the trip under false pretenses, namely that he claims he was conducting official state business. The problem arises from the fact that he also attended a political rally in support of a Democratic candidate for office. Apparently, Gov. Beshear agrees that there is an appearance of improprietary. Why else would he agree to repay the state if he knew that he had did nothing wrong? It gives the appearance that he got caught doing something wrong, and citizens are actually holding him accountable for his actions. I say Bravo! Not because he is a Democrat, but because you are seeing governmental accountablity in action. If only we would apply it equally to both Democrats and Republicians alike, both locally and nationally, then you would actually see our government improve.

Did anyone read the part where the state REPUBLICAN party chair Steve Robinson was with Gov. Beshear on this trip? It sounds to me that both parties were in the wrong?!

This isn't a Democrat versus Republican issue. It's about holding government and our governmental leaders accountable. Far too often, both Democrat and Republican leaders see a election victory as a manidate to do whatever they please, whenever they want. They believe they have found the Golden Ticket in a bar of Wonka Chocolate. Why? Because we do not hold them accountable. Instead, we turn it into a Democrate vs. Republican issue. Have you ever stop to think that maybe that's the way they want it? If we are too busy being critical of each other, then we won't have time to be critical of them.

Well I see spike has spoke! lol Politicians are elected by us and they are no better than any one of us. They need to be reminded of that on a daily basis. No perks to them at all. If everyone would remember this and not treat them like gods maybe we could get them to do thier jobs in a profiecent manner. I urge all residents in this state to email, write a letter or call their offices and speak your miind whenever something happens that you don't like. Quit letting them turn deaf ear on us after they have been elected. Hey Leon, get to work!!!!

Once again, the Liberal of Liberals SPIKE LEE has spoken so all is well. Hey SPIKE, if it were a Repub, you'd be yelling your darn head off. Give it a break; your colors really shone thru on that post. Maybe you like your tax dollars used for crap like that, but the majority of us don't.

SPIKE LEE, I hope you aren't serious in your arguemnet that there isn't anything wrong with using a governmental vehicle (or plane in this case) however and whenever a government employee wants. Not only is this a violation of state law, it shows unethical character. By this, I mean that he used taxpayers money (do you how costly it is to fly a private plane, even short distances?)in order to support a fellow democrat in a state politcal race under the guise of offical business. Not to mention that he claims we are in a budgetary "crisis". I guess reducing governmental expendatures on useless travel isn't on the Governor's list. Perks are for business owners, not elected officials. We are "made fun of" and consider "behind" the rest of the nation because of the important decisions (or lack thereof)that we, as Kentuckians make. We should hold our elected officials accountable for what they do. After all, they are the ones who the rest of the nation judge us by.
