Drivers Worried About Central Kentucky Bridge

After watching our newscast last week about concrete falling from a bridge over New Circle Rd, David Mason says there is a dangerous bridge in Clark County that needs to be inspected.

Mason says there are coal trucks and heavy trucks driving on Mountian Parkway, but it's what can be seen when driving underneath the bridge that has him worried.

He says rusty bars and concrete on the ground can be seen when driving under the bridge and hopes officials inspect this bridge and all the others in the area. Meanwhile, he's taking an alternate route and avoiding the bridge.

We called the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet who tried to put us in touch with the highway district which includes Clark County, but they were not available for comment.

DRIVE FAST ENOUGH TO KEEP YOUR VEHICLE WEIGH UP OFF THE BRIDGE.

If exposed rebar and flaking concrete make a bridge dangerous, you might as well stop driving altogether. This really isn't newsworthy.

The Transportation Cabinet inspected all state-maintained bridges in KY after the Minneapolis tragedy last fall, under orders from Gov. Fletcher. There are a LOT of bridges that have exposed rebar on them around our state and many others, concrete just doesn't hold very well upside-down in our weather conditions (hot-cold-hot-cold in 48 hours). What this man needs to realize is that the concrete on the underside of the bridge is NOT what provides the structural integrity of the bridge, it's the rebar under it that's holding it together. The concrete is mostly to make it look better so you don't see all that metal fused together that is holding it up. This is yet another case of the media sensastionalizing something to the point that people become paranoid and think that every bridge in the state is to the point of imminent collapse...hogwash! Go out on I-64 at exit 48 at Graefenburg and take a look at the underside of that bridge (listed as critical to fix) to see something bad.

Its a waste of time to ask for help with anything in Kentucky. You will very lucky not be charged with a crime ,if you report problems. If not you will talked down too in short order.
