Corbin, Wayne County Schools Close Due To Illness

The Corbin Independent school district canceled classes on Monday after student attendance dropped to below ninety percent, this past week.

Superintendent Ed McNeel said they decided to extend the weekend one day longer after so many students were missing school because of flu illnesses.

Dr. Uzma Aslam says they are seeing a lot more flu cases these days because patients are not going to their doctors as soon as their symptoms start.

Corbin school officials canceled classes at all five of their schools, hoping the extra day will help sick students recover.

Superintendent Ed McNeel also says this is not the first time they've had to cancel classes because of the high number of illnesses among students, they closed schools for three days about three years ago.

As for Wayne County Schools, officials canceled classes for both Monday and Tuesday. Officials there say they've had 12 reported cases of flu in the last week.

Pulaski county needs to get out of school. More than 100 students went home because of the flu, just in one Middle School.
