The Lexington Police Department is getting a new crime-fighting tool, thanks to a federal grant.

Congressman Ben Chandler made the announcement on the new funds on Monday morning at Blue Grass Airport.

The money will help upgrade technology on the police department's helicopter, flown by WKYT's own Officer Don Evans.

The helicopter will be equipped thermal imaging technology, which allows officers to track heat from the air and see the outline of a body.

Lexington police will assist other police departments around the area with this new technology.
