Governor Beshear is flying by National Guard helicopter to the effected areas to survey the damage and determine how public emergency service can best assist those facing loss of family and property.

Back in 1995 my family lost everything in the tornado outbreak. If it hadn't been for FEMA, Red Cross, and The Salvation Army, I don't know what most of who lost everything would have done. You feel completely helpless when you lose your material items much less lose a family member. Please just remember that in times of devastation it's much more respectful to keep jokes, sarcasm, and politics out of the picture. There are plenty of other opportunities for that stuff in the other stories on this website.

If the do goody gooders don't want gambling, then let's tax the churches. They are big money makers anymore, and care more about money than religion. If we can't tax the churches, then they should stay out of politics! I, for one, am sick of their blackmail, and scare tactics. If they don't want gambling, then let them bail out the state!

I am a die hard republican but lets leave politics out of this. The Governor called for a state of emergency so the people affected would have the chance at getting federal help. This is no time for politics. At least he didn't do like the Gov. in Louisana during Katrina.

What the hell is wrong with you idiots posting negative things on here? There are so many people in this state alone that have lost everything. Some have lost loved ones....and all you can do is cry about your education and casinos. Get a life and quit being so selfish.I am proud of our governor for what he has done so far. These people need the basics just to live right now. Instead of bashing on here put your energy to trying to help someone who has been affected by this storm. Joe...scare tactic? You should have rode the storm out with someone who did.UK....get a job and pay for an apartment. The ones who lost everything now have no where to go!Gambler...I would say that if casinos bring in more revenue to the state and there are any benefits to pass out, you will be one of the first in line HUH? Vinnie...I guess Beshear ordered up this storm...Right??? Idiots, all of the those with negative comments on here. Have a heart. The money is not coming out of your pockets!

While the Governor was indeed right in calling for a state of emergency, This does allow for federal funding but it also prevents deviant businesses from gouging the people of the commonwealth for needed Items. Good Job

We didn't have bad weather here until the Governor starting talking about bringing casinos here. It's a sign people; NO CASINOS!

and what I hear is "a state of emergency for the weather" and "a state of emergency for the budget"...can we all take a step back and say "scare tactic" to make it look like the Gov. is doing a great job? Ok, the weather was a gimme, but what's next? A state of emergency for....emgergencies???
