Oil Line Bursts In Clark County

WINCHESTER, Ky. (AP) - An emergency management official says a 24-inch oil line has ruptured on a farm south of Winchester in Clark County.

Steve Oglesby of the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management says the leak involves about 200 barrels containing some 8,400 gallons of oil. The line that broke carries crude oil to a refinery in Ashland.

Oglesby says there is no immediate danger to the public or the water supply because the oil is not free-flowing. He says it is a relatively minor leak compared to some others the state has experienced in recent years.

Pipeline officials and emergency personnel were on the scene Monday afternoon.

I live at the location of the oil spill and Winchester has no need to worry about their water supply. Marathon Oil has contained the spill and removed most of the free flowing oil, the only contaminated area is the ground that the oil has run over. All of that is the soil located on and around the pipeline.

Winchester needs to worry about the safety of our water supply! Marathon could be killing us all if the petroleum gets in the drinking water.

Yes Woody it is a measurement. The spill was oil not barrels made of steel.

It is possible 200 barrels was intended as a measurement, not as physical barrels. Since one barrel of oil is equal to 42 gallons, 200 barrels of oil would be approximately 8,400.

Go get gas tonight, I'm sure Speedway will use this as a reason to raise prices by 30 cents a gallon for the next 2 weeks.
