More people are starting to take notice of the new equipment, and opportunities, after Friday's open house for the Hazard-Perry County Senior Center's Wellness Center.
The UK Center for Rural Health chipped in $25,000 dollars for state of the art exercise equipment we first showed you earlier this week and officials say the benefits go much further than burning calories and socializing. They say the center is setting an example for others to follow.
"This is definitely one of the shining stars across this state," said Bill Cooper with the Department of Aging and Independent Living.
"You know if we can keep our aging population and the baby boomers healthier, it can help cut down on the cost of their health care," said Dr. Baretta Casey, UK Center for Rural Health.
UK officials say they want to expand the facility into a larger wellness center worth more than one million dollars. They hope to do it within the next five years.
