HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) - A vacant nursing center is being
renovated into a dormitory by Northern Kentucky University.
The university has started pouring money the former Lakeside Heights Nursing Center, which has been vacant for 18 months. The 150,000-square-foot, three-story building is being transformed into about 230 rooms with 460 beds for students. The $17 million project is scheduled to be completed by August.
University President James Votruba says the building should help alleviate the demands for student housing. He says the university
had to turn away more than 200 students who wanted to live on
campus last year because there wasn't enough space.
The university bought the facility in March 2007 for $8.5 million after the nursing home closed in April 2006.
