Alexander Nominated Again

The Democratic Party Tuesday announced Scott Alexander is running for the 84th District State House of Representatives seat in the upcoming special election.

The seat was formerly held by Republican Brandon Smith before he beat Alexander in a prior special election to take the 30th District State Senate seat earlier this month.

Republican party leaders tell us they do not have a candidate and don't expect have a candidate for the 84th District seat.

The filing deadline is Tuesday at 5 pm. The special election is set for March 18th. The winner of the special election would only hold the seat until the general election in November.

Scott Alexander did not file to run in the general election.

A news release issued Tuesday by the Democratic party.

FRANKFORT – The Democratic County Executive Committees of Harlan and Perry counties met last night and nominated Scott Alexander to run in a special election to fill the 84th House District vacancy.

Alexander is the owner of MJ&M Sales, a mining supply company. He previously served as State Representative and is prepared to begin work in the House Chambers immediately.

"I was pleased to learn tonight that Scott Alexander will be the Democratic nominee for the 84th House District vacancy. The nomination process shows that Democrats continue to work together as a united front to nominate quality candidates," Chair Jennifer Moore said. "Scott's prior experience in the legislature makes him uniquely qualified to fill this vacancy for the remainder of the term and work to help make the transition smooth for the next Democrat who will be elected in November."

Speaker of the House Jody Richards called for a special election to fill the 84th House District seat to be held on March 18, 2008.

I can guarantee you that other politicians has there hands in this one. Think about it. Who else is on the ticket for State Representative that would benefit the most from this? You guess right! Benny Ray Bailey. This is just speculation, but the talk of the town has it that Scott Alexander has promised to campagain/support Benny Ray Bailey this fall. The son of Benny Ray Bailey Sr. The one that used his political power for his personal gain. Benny Jr. "shortie" has quite a past himself. Under the freedom of information act you can acquire documents that would support my statement. Primarily a troubled relationship with an ex wife in Floyd Co. To you, and all the voters of the 30th district I sit back and rethink who you vote for. I urge all the voters of the 30th district to sit back and think, make a wise and descive decesion before YOU vote on March 18th.. This is not a political jab, as im not a politican. I'm just a farmer so what do I know. I throw political hay-makers.

People, it's time for a Democratic uprising! It's time to wipe out the "Good Ole Boy" mentality that has burdened us for many years and bring educated, community-minded individuals to the table as candidates. If nothing else, we should at least have a candidate who can put a sentence together without it being scripted. This type of behavior is exactly why we cannot get past the stereotypes that the world has formed of Eastern Kentucky for so many years! I agree with Karl, if this is the best that we have to offer, then it's not worth the trip to the polls! This is a sad day for all of us in Eastern Kentucky!

Great -- a three-time loser looks like he'll tiptoe into the seat he couldn't rightfully win back from Brandon Smith. Can't the counties in this district put forth some new candidates who are worthy to actually serve in this seat? If people wanted Scott Alexander in this position, he wouldn't have lost it in the first place, and would have won it back when he tried before. If he's the best we've got to offer, I'm not voting.
