Abandoned Jenkins Home Comes Tumbling Down

Officials in one eastern Kentucky community say it's safe to drive down the road heading into town after an abandoned house is torn down.

Jenkins city officials say they got permission to tear down the house on Kentucky 805 because it was falling down towards the roadway.

Department of Transportation officials blocked the road while a crew from Teco Coal helped city and county employees bring the house down.

It took about an hour to turn the house into a pile of debris.

Jenkins mayor Charles Dixon says he hopes to tear other abandoned houses down to make the road into Jenkins look nicer.
