Meter In $8,000 Water Bill Dispute Found Accurate

It was a very big price tag for a water bill, $8,000, now there's new information in the case.

The Danville family that owns the vacant home says they don't owe it, but results of a water meter test say otherwise.

Earl Coffey is the Danville city engineer. He had the meter sent off for testing and Coffey says the results show the meter tested to be 99% accurate.

Coffey says more than likely a leak caused the problem which will in turn force the owners to pay.

All in all, he says it is the cities responsibility to get the water to the lines and the owners responsibility for the upkeep.

Coffey says it will be a few days before the water bill dispute is over. He says he will meet with the city manager to discuss if there will be any changes to the $8,000 bill.

I think the water company should pay for it. Because it was their fought for not caughting it sooner then 8000. Where I live any water bill gets pass 3 months they will shut it off. I don't think the woman should have to pay for the water bill if she didn't run it up and if she did then she should pay for the bill.

I think this is ridiculous, there is no way a leak caused this without anyone noticing......I wouldn't pay it, and I don't think many would if ask and gave an honest answer.....nor should this family have to pay it either......absolutely, ridiculous

An $8,000 water bill, WOW. That explains all the water under my house. I thought it was due to the recent drought. Where I live, any time rain water has puddled around my meter the good-ole-boys just guess what they think I've used, and its always too low. I think that the meter reader who has been estimating the meter for the last two years should share in the financial burden.

Some of you people are in a great need of help. These people put their mom into a home, then for whatever reason they didn`t shut off the utilities, now they are getting all you people stired up and feeling sorry for them so they wont have to pay this bill they owe and it looks like it just might work too. Roddy Piper says he knows, I bet he don`t help pay their bills, will you?

They knew the house was vacant. They should estimate the bill and then if I were the family members..... SHUT IT OFF!!!! I would NOT give that business one more dime and no one living there! To want a person/family to pay $8,000.00.... they have bound to have lost their minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
