UK Students Asked To Lock Doors

UK campus is on a safety alert Monday night after police say two women woke up with a strange man in their dorm room at the Blanding Tower.

Lexington police say the first incident happened Friday night when the suspect just walked into a woman's dorm and laid down on her bed. The woman tells police when she woke up and found the man in her bed she began to ask him who he was, then man ran out the room.

Then police tell us on Saturday night a similar case happened just three doors down from where the first incident occurred. In this case, a female student says she woke up and found a man standing by her bed. She says the suspect then quickly left the room.

Police say in both cases the dorm room doors were unlocked allowing the men to enter without any problems. Police are warning students to make sure they lock their doors.

No arrests have been made so far, but police say they are following several leads.

ASKED TO LOCK DOORS??? HA...WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE ASKED TO LOCK THEIR DOORS? I'M SORRY, BUT THAT SHOULD BE AN INSTANT HABIT TO DO, ESPEICALLY BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP!!

Let's be honest...some guy probably just got drunk then stumbled into the wrong room. Seem unlikely...I think not.

Well said Jeb! I read your post and you didn't say "not to lock your doors." You just said that an open door doesn't give some one the right to walk in without permission and you DID tell them to lock the doors. What did these people who gave you grief see in your statement that I didn't? Oh well, being a teacher, I know some people skim and don't read the whole thing. Boy do I have stories on that one...LOL!

TO UK MOM AND ANYONE ELSE WHO IS THROWING BLAME EVERYWHERE BUT ON THE GIRLS. ITS SAD THAT YOU PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THE COMMON SENSE TO LOCK YOUR DOORS AT NIGHT. IF YOU WALK UP TO A STORE AND THE LIGHTS ARE ON AND YOU CAN SEE PEOPLE INSIDE AND YOU PULL THE DOOR, BUT IT WILL NOT OPEN GUESS WHAT YOU DON'T GET IN, AND WILL NOT GO IN. IF ITS UNLOCKED YOU GO IN!!!....THIS PERSON THAT DID THIS HAD NO WRITE TO GO IN THE ROOM JUST BECAUSE IT WAS UNLOCKED, BUT THE FACT REMAINS...IF IT WAS LOCKED THEY WOULD HAVE NOT WENT IN. THIS WAS MORE THAN LIKELY A DRUNK WHO WENT INTO THE WRONG ROOM THINKING IT WAS HIS. THEY HAD EVERY CHANCE DO ANYTHING TO THE GIRL BUT LEFT WHEN CONFRONTED. ANYWAY....LOCK YOUR DOORS PEOPLE THIS ISN'T WONDERLAND.....THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD THERE DOORS LOCKED...JUST BECAUSE POLICE PATROL AROUND MY HOME DON'T MEAN I AM NOT LOCKING MY DOORS AT NIGHT.......WAKE UP PEOPLE,THINK, AND STOP MAKING EXCUSSES FOR YOUR SCREW UPS

I would think it's common sense to lock your door. I learned to when I was 5. I didn't know you had to go to college to learn common sense!

@uk mom & Charity If you two are too stupid to know to lock your doors then you are exactly the type of people that this happens to. You dare say the campus is supposed to keep you safe when your in a dorm with 500 other people you never even talk to. You both prove that ignorance breeds crime. You think a security guard will keep you safe from people allowed in the building already. Btw Charity your not locking door policy is only explaned by your location and not your aguiment. As we all know the brightest people and largest city is in Mt Sterling.

With all the expensive stuff in our room (laptop, cell phone, ipod) my room mate and I ALWAYS keep our door locked, because a person living in the dorm could take that too. The girls probably had the same kind of electronics, and they were not using their heads by leaving their doors open

It isn't right for someone to walk in but it is common sense to know to lock your doors. That is the reason locks were invented.
