FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear's proposal to overhaul
state pensions has cleared its first legislative hurdle.
The House State Government Committee approved Beshear's measure
Tuesday, with some added tweaks that would apply to state
lawmakers. The measure heads to the full House for consideration
and could come to a vote by week's end.
Beshear has said the plain is aimed at eventually steering the
state's retirement system into the financial clear.
It calls for small changes to existing employee benefits, but it
would mostly affect future employees covered by the state
