Police continue to search for two men who broke into a woman's Nicholas County home, shot her, then set the house on fire.

Mary Willoughby is recovering at a family members home. The attack happened late Monday night after Willoughby heard some noise at her front door, and found two men trying to break into her home.

After a struggle, police say the intruders shot the 60 year old woman in the stomach with a small caliber handgun, then set her home on South Walnut Street, in Carlisle, on fire. Willoughby says she had to crawl out of her burning home to stay alive.

"I was sitting there hurting and bleeding and they were standing there looking at my house and watching everything I had of my grandchildren, my children, and my two husbands, burn," she said. "A lot of memories. There's just no way you can replace them. It's just devastating, that's all I can say."

Willoughby managed to call 911 and was later life flighted to UK Hospital.
She said she's still trying to figure out why the men targeted her, but she knows it was no accident.

The two male intruders were described as wearing dark clothing, hooded sweatshirts and gloves. Police tell us they are following up on numerous leads and conducting interviews.

You pathetic thieving cowards! Try this at my home and you'll be dead before your tiny little brains can eek out a single thought. How dare you do this to ANYONE.

This makes me sick! Mary has to be the sweetest, unselfish person in the world and for someone to do this to her, it is just sad! Thank god she is and always will be a fighter! God bless you Mary and know that your family members here in Illinois are thinking of you and praying those creeps get caught and get what is coming to them!

I have lived in Carlisle all my life and cannot wait until the day I can get out. Carlisle has become a haven for riff-raff scumb of the earth because our local law and judicial systems are more interested in spending their time giving speeding citations to those of us who actually get up in the morning and go to work for a living instead of selling drugs and stealing for our livelyhood. You can steal, murder, and rape in Carlisle and get away with it. What Carlisle needs is a complete overhaul of our courthouse and police staff. Nicholas County/Carlisle needs to recruit business educated individulas to run our government. We have untrained, unskilled, ignorant people trying to run a county and city. The difference between them and me is that I know I'm not smart enough to run a county/city and they are stupid enough to think they are! Build your welcome centers and doll museums and let the criminals take over.Wake up Carlisle.....in all we do, WE ARE PITTIFUL!!!

THIS IS SO TERRIBLE. PEOPLE THESE DAYS IF THEY DON'T HAVE SOMETHING THEY TRY TO TAKE IT AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED. I HOPE SHE HAS A SPEEDY RECOVERY AND I HOPE THE AUTHORITIES CATCH THE ONES RESPONSIBLE. THE COURT SYSTEM HAS TO START CRACKING DOWN ON THE CRIMINALS INSTEAD OF LETTING THE CRIMINALS GET OFF AND THE VICTIMS OF CRIME SUFFER A LIFETIME. ONCE SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS, YOU NEVER GET OVER IT.

What is the world coming to? Thank god Mary survived. My heart goes out to her.Carlisle "the little town with a big heart" is quickly going to hell because of drugs and people that have too much time on their hands! This little town had better wake up and crack down while they still can. I have seen a major change in the last 5-10 years and it really scares me.God bless you Mary! I hope these criminals are caught and punished but that is the problem in Carlisle these people keep breaking the law but only receive a slap on the wrist so they can go do it again.
