Committee Votes 6 To 5; Casino Bill Shot Down

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A proposal to legalize casinos in Kentucky
has been voted down by a sharply divided House committee.

Two separate proposals were up for consideration on Tuesday, but
the Committee on Elections, Constitutional Amendments and
Intergovernmental Affairs couldn't agree on either.

Beshear met with House Speaker Jody Richards and other
Democratic leaders in his office Monday night in an effort to nudge
his gambling proposal along.

Beshear wants Kentucky lawmakers to approve a constitutional
amendment that would allow casino gambling in the state.

I am a born-again Christian and I'm going to have to agree with several of these comments. Gambling is considered sin to the majority of Chistians. GAMBLING ALSO INCLUDES LOTTERY & BINGO. Therefore, they are considered "wrong" as well. You cannot catergorize sin and believe that it is okay to do a "lesser" sin. Sin is sin and those of us in the Christian faith are just going to have to realize it. If you profess to be a Christian and do not do your very best to be Christ-like then all you have succeeded in doing is to bring reproach upon the church. The church hypocrits are making it tough on the ones of us that are really trying to live right.

Dear Governor Beshear; I hate to inform you that "Denial" is not a river in Egypt; it unfortunately is what you are in right now. Accept the fact that your illicit pipe dream of "giving back" to your gambling buddies has fallen on hard times. Your blindness to the fact that we do not want casino gambling in our state proves you are not looking out for us. Please let this issue die. I'm sorry if you have already made promises to Mr. Yung and others; you knew better. By the way, when the investigation proves that you really were trying to pay off the big contributors to your election campaign, I will, like others in this state, sit back and take solace that we were right. Sincerely, Joe Taxpayer

Thank you for stating what I have been talking about for quite some time. Look at the story about the people in the trailer park and you'll see what I'm talking about. I was bad mouthed for doing the same thing you have done. People wonder why Kentuckians are looked at as backwards and uneducated. I rest my case!

I really didn't have a problem with legal gambling, and I am a democrat, but I just can't make my self like this "super-mouth" Beshear. Because of him, I like the idea of the way it went.

IF YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH CASINO GAMBLING THAN DON'T DO IT. IT IS A LOT LIKE THE WET/DRY COUNTIES, IF PEOPLE WANT A BEER THEY WILL DRIVE TO GET IT. AND IF THEY WANT TO GAMBLE, THEY WILL DO IT TOO. THE WORKING PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT THEY WANT WITH THEIR MONEY.
