A Somerset man was arrested on drug charges Monday by Somerset Police after receiving a complaint on the subject trying to steal a cash register from K-Mart. At around 3 PM, 911 received a call from K-Mart that an individual had cut the cords to a cash register and was attempting to steal it. As officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot. Officers began a search of the area locating the subject on GE Drive. Upon checking the subject for weapons, the suspect told Officer Eric Klepper that he had drug paraphernalia in his pocket. The suspect, Kyle Cordell, 20 years old, was transported back to K-Mart. A consent search of Cordell’s truck revealed a small amount of marijuana. Also located in Cordell’s truck were items believed to be stolen from vehicles recently including a credit card that had been fraudulently used at J.C. Penney's.
Cordell was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense. He was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention. The investigation is continuing with additional charges expected to be filed.
