Scam Artist Targeting Businesses

Paris Police want to find a scam artist they say is targeting businesses.

Police say the man scams cashiers by asking for change.

On Friday, he hit the Bourbon County Wal-Mart.

On Monday, he got away with $100 from Ken's Exxon.

Police describe the suspect as a black man between 38 and 42 years old.

He's 6' tall and weighs around 160 pounds.

The suspect has been seen driving a new, black four-door Buick that has chrome door handles.

Hey...until it happens to you, you have no idea what you are talking about. It actually did happen to me and it had nothing to do with stupidity. The scam artist and partner "trick and confuse" you before swiping money from your drawer.

This sounds like the classic "Change Raising" con. It's not too hard to beat. Just complete each transaction one at a time. If someone asks for change, make sure you count the money they are giving you before you give them anything back. If they try to get you to make change while you are making change for the first transaction, DON'T DO IT!! Alert your manager or store security. This is how they con you, by confusing you about how much change you owe them back. Hope they catch the guy.

He scams them by asking for change? Is that all it takes? Maybe Wal Mart should look at hiring some smarter cashiers. Anybody ever watch the movie "The Sting?"
