Accused Teacher Avoids Rape Trial Wth Plea Deal

MOUNT OLIVET, Ky. (AP) - A northeastern Kentucky teacher charged with having a sexual relationship with one of her male students has ended her case with a plea deal.

Crystal Wells was facing six counts of rape at a trial in Robertson County scheduled for March 11. She pleaded guilty to six felony charges of unlawful transaction with a minor on Monday.

Wells was a teacher at Deming High School before resigning in November. The student was 15.

Authorities say family members found text messages on the boy's phone and felt they were indicative of a sexual relationship.

The plea agreement calls for Wells to be sentenced to five years in prison. She is scheduled to be sentenced on April 14.
