Rally Against Casino Gambling Held At Capitol Rotunda

Just down the hall from the governor's news conference, there was a major rally Wednesday against casino gambling.

A large crowd gathered in the Capitol Rotunda to hear a mostly moral based argument against expanded gaming.

Lexington preacher Jeff Fugate was among those speaking to the crowd.

When asked about the event, Governor Beshear, who supports casino legislation, laughed and said "free speech is a wonderful thing."

I don't believe gambling is the solution to our problems. However, you can guarantee if he doesn't go through...we the working class will pay dearly! I know many thought Fletcher was bad, and I was not a Fletcher supporter, myself. Well, you know that saying..."you ain't seen nothin' yet". Look at what has already taken place since he's been in office. It's all public knowledge if you know where to look.

Personally I see no difference in casino's, betting on horses or bingo. It is all gambling anyway you look at it. It seems there are so many double standards in Kentucky such as drinking is o.k. but smoking is not. Neither is good for your health and alcohol kills more people than wars. I for one would like to see casino's come to Kentucky. I enjoy going occasionally and I think it would be great for the economy.

I am doubtful that you had anyone there to cover the event if you dismiss it as mostly moral. This is ugly, special-interest, back-room politics at its worst, and a huge waste of time that could be spent coming up with better, more sustainable solutions. Or, dare we ask, some restraint to spending.

Yes, Mr. Beshear, freedom of speech is a wonderful thing. So is the ability to vote. I thing you are going to be the greatest gift the Republican Party ever had in this state, come the next election.
