Police in central Kentucky is putting out a warning about a scam many people are falling victim to.
Mt. Vernon police chief Terry Jackson says someone is calling people, claiming to be a collection agency for their insurance company.
They tell the person on the phone their insurance has been canceled and require a credit card number to re-instate it.
The chief says insurance companies in Rockcastle County have received close to a dozen complaints about the scam so far. Many of the scammed victims have been elderly residents.
If you receive such a call, police say call your insurance company to verify, before you give out information on the phone.
