The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory in effect until 4 pm this afternoon for the entire WYMT viewing area.
Southerly winds will become breezy today over eastern Kentucky with gusts to 45 mph possible as a potent low pressure system and cold front makes its way through the southern Appalachians. Higher wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible at the higher elevations in southeast Kentucky. The greatest threat for highest wind gusts will be ahead of the cold front and in and near stronger rain showers and thunderstorms.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph or wind gusts between 45 and 57 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
