Five-Year-Old Collapses At School, Later Dies

Students, teachers and staff at Camp Dick Robinson Elementary continue to grieve the death of 5-year-old kindergarten student Jordan Aguilar.

Doctors have since determined that a rare birth defect caused Jordan to collapse from a stroke on Monday while at school. He was airlifted to Kentucky Children's Hospital where he died, hours later.

Counselors and teachers at the school were on the lookout on Wednesday for emotional distress.

Counselor Michelle Carver told 27 NEWSFIRST, "Some of the students have been really upset. We contacted a few parents and asked them to talk with their children and I've talked with a few students privately."

“With really young children, maybe the best thing you can do is keep them busy with the familiar," Carver adds. "We have tried to keep everything the same routine with the kids, especially the younger ones. I think they do better in a routine. We try to encourage the teachers to do that. Yesterday, it was a little hard because the teachers themselves were still extremely upset."

Of course, at a time of tragedy like this, everybody wants to help, and Michelle Carver tried to let students know how to go about that.

"I told them a way they could help was with financial assistance to the family, and I know the class is making something to take to the funeral home, a poster with their hand prints on it in remembrance of Jordan."

If you would like to help the Aguilar family with funeral expenses checks should be made payable to the Garrard County Family Resource Center and can be mailed to:

Lancaster, KY 40444.
