Toddler Falls Out Of Moving Car

Daniel Patrick Crouch is now in good condition at UK Hospital after being airlifted there Thursday night. Those who know the 2-year-old say he gave his parents the scare of their life.

"Yeah, he's a typical two year old. He's a good little boy. He plays and it was just a freak accident," says Rebecca Lewis of her neighbor's toddler.

Police say the boy's parents were driving on Main Street by the post office. The toddler was buckled in his car seat, but police say that didn't keep him in the car.

"The infant unlocked himself from his car seat, opened up the door, and fell out of the vehicle, " says Owingsville Police Chief Todd Tout.

Daniel Patrick suffered some cuts and bruises and a bump to the head. But friends say when his parents rushed to his side, he wasn't moving. They feared the worse. A helicopter was called to take him to the hospital.

Police say the accident is a good reminder of a safety feature many cars have.

Engaging the child safety lock allows parents to open the door from the outside but the door stays shut from the inside.

To Ashley from Hazard, well now you have heard of this happening. Hopefully one day when you grow up and have children you will superglue them to the carseat to avoid this happening to you. I have a two year old and I am very glad I drive a two door car instead of a 4 door because I can easily see him doing this. He can unbuckle his seatbelt and he loves to do it. It's hard to keep a child in a car seat once they figure out how to unbuckle themselves. I feel very sorry for this family and hope that the little boy is okay.

to ashley in hazard, you apparently have no kids.i hope when you do your not so stupid to think a 2 year old can't do this on his own.

My brother did the same exact thing 30 years ago and my mother almost ran over him before we realized what happened. Back then, there were no warning lights that the door had opened so we knew that the Lord was watching over him that day as always. He was very curious so it was hard to keep him contained for any length of time. I am glad this family had the same outcome and he is going to be ok.

Kids do the darnedest things. I remember looking back in the car to check on my grandson when he was small only to find him hanging from his car seat by his feet. So glad he is ok.
