State Police To Scale Back Fuel Use, Patrols

Kentucky State Police will be limiting patrols because of high gasoline prices.

Lt. Phil Crumpton confirms that all posts are now asked to scale back fuel use by at least 10%.

Crumpton says KSP has as many as a thousand cars on the road every day.

He says no services or call responses will be cut.

Troopers are being urged to park and observe locations, keep vehicles in good running order, carpool to meetings and observe the speed limit.

State police observe the speed limit, that's a joke. I don't know if I have ever seen them observe the speed limit unless they were running radar.

When I see a police car, whether it be KSP or any other law enforcement vehicle, or any Crown Vic with official or Franklin County plates, observe the speed limit, then I'll gladly pay my taxes without complaining! It ain't going to happen!

This to me makes no sense at all. If all the criminals see where the troopers are spending their "idle" time, they will run rampant. Why don't they cut the big paychecks of useless politicians instead of cutting the police dept. Our government has lost their minds.Just last night another elderly couple was broken in on and robbed. How do they think it will be when they cut police patrol? Late night businesses will be sitting ducks.

I too have seldom ever seen a KY STATE POLICE TROOPER DO THE SPEED LIMIT!!!I wonder what drivers manuel they used to get their license. How can they enforce the law if they don't obey the same laws as we are supposed too.

It would be nice if the State police had a fundraiser. I for one would buy a ticket to win one of those new "Sporty" cruisers. (unmarked of course) lol.

That's funny you complain on their speed...yet, you'll complain when they don't get there fast enough.

Observe the speed limit. Thats a good one. Everytime I get out on the highway I see a trooper doing atleast 75 or 80 mph, no lights, no siren. Yet if anyone else gets about 10 mph over they write tickets like they are going out of style. Them driving like that is just as dangerous as anyone else doing it regardless of what they think or say on the subject. Sounds like a double standard to me, just because they wear a badge dosnt make them any better than anyone else.

Ya had me till the part where they are supposed to "observe speed limit". I'll believe it when I see it.
