Man With No Legs Charged With Wreckless Driving

A trial date has been set for a Lancaster man with no legs who's charged with wreckless driving.

The wheelchair user was cited for driving his powerchair in the road.

Ohmer Portwood says he has no choice but to hit the road, because the city's sidewalks are crumbling and dangerous. On top of that, Portwood says he's not pleading guilty to the wreckless driving charges.

He's gonna ride this one all the way to trial. He says there, a judge will decide if his rights as a handicapped person are being ignored by the city.

Lancaster's mayor says he did not want to comment on this situation because of the pending trial.

So whos the facist cop that ticketed him? Shouldnt we fire him? AFter all interfearing with the mans right to life is unconstitutional. Whats he supposed to do get a job buy a handicapped van and obey the laws that were made with out any consulting or even thinking about him in the 1st place? Real die hard criminal the cop stopped here folks.

If the city doesn't want this man on the road, then FIX THE SIDEWALKS! It's that simple! He has a right to get to the store & other places just like anyone else. He pays taxes just like the rest of them. The city is trying to discriminate against him because of his disability. He cannot help the fact that he doesn't have legs! SO either fix the sidewalks or leave this man alone!

Lancaster is a poor excuse for a town, there is nothing there. I see nothing changing. If you are not of a certain group of people, then your problems just don't matter. I say this Man should speak out. The sidewalks are a mess, he really has no way to get around, that is safe.. There are other handicapped citizens in Lancaster also. Something really does need to be done, before him or someone else gets hurt.

If the sidewalks in Lexington are falling apart then its reasonable to assume that the sidewalks in Lancaster are crumbling as well. This man has a point and is standing up for the rights of the handicapped. Hopefully the Judge sees it this way.
