Lunsford Launches TV Ad In U. S. Senate Race

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Democrat Bruce Lunsford unveiled his first television ad of the Senate campaign Friday with a populist message criticizing Washington for inaction while families lose homes and jobs.

Lunsford's commercial featured a familiar script as the wealthy Louisville businessman reminded voters he grew up on a Kentucky tobacco farm and helped pay his way through college by working road construction. He had aired similar ads in unsuccessful runs for governor in 2003 and 2007.

"Families have it tough these days," Lunsford said in narrating his new ad running statewide. "While Washington just argues, nothing gets done."

The ad debuted on a day the U.S. Senate worked on legislation aimed at easing the crisis in the housing market. The measure is touted as helping homeowners facing foreclosure but awards the overwhelming share of its tax breaks to businesses such as lenders and homebuilders.

Lunsford has a number of rivals in seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat held by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. Other Democrats in the race are Louisville businessman Greg Fischer; Michael Cassaro, a Louisville-area pain doctor; David Wylie of Harrodsburg; David L. Williams of Glasgow; James Rice of Campbellsville; and Kenneth Stepp of Manchester.

Kim Geveden, political director for Fischer's campaign, said Lunsford's introductory ad was "more of the same" from his previous campaigns. "It wasn't successful for him in the past, and don't think it will be successful for him the third time around," Geveden said.

Well, Lunsford couldn't do any worst than McConnell is doing! McConnell's only interest is making HIMSELF rich! He no longer cares about the citizens of Kentucky. I for one am voting against any incumbent in office! If you're in office now, you won't get my vote! I hope others will join me in an effort to get rid of ALL these idiots!
