In a campus-wide email today, Eastern Kentucky University's president and police chief issued a campus-wide safety alert.
Last Thursday, a 12-year-old boy says a man approached him and offered him money, cigarettes, and drugs if the minor would talk to him for half an hour near Todd and Dupree Halls on campus. The child said "no" and left.
Student John Smith says the news caught him by surprise and is now keeping his guard up. Brandon Paris, on the other hand, says he still feels pretty safe because police are doing a good job patrolling the campus.
EKU police say their suspect is a white man, around 40-years-old and 5 '8" tall. The man has a tall slender build, blonde hair, and possibly a northeastern accent. He is also described as having a disheveled appearance and was wearing blue jeans, old white shoes and a wind breaker jacket. The suspect was also carrying a satchel type book bag.
Campus police searched for the man, but did not find anyone matching his description.
Students are advised to report suspicious subjects loitering around campus, stay alert, travel in groups, and lock all doors and windows.
