National Work Zone Safety Week Begins This Week

As spring temperatures rise, so do the number of accidents in construction zones.

Kentucky highway officials kicked off national work zone safety week in Hazard Monday, reminding drivers to be careful.

Family members of victims and traffic safety groups are helping to get the word out through public service announcements across the state.

“You know just driving up here today I had about an hour and a half drive and I passed three work zones and flagmen are standing out there, so we just want everybody to be cautious, drive slow, and be careful,” Billie Johnson said.

More than 40-thousand moms and dads are injured every year in highway work zones across the country.

85 percent of those injured are drivers.
