Citations Issued To Kentucky Coal Operator For January Death

WHITESBURG, Ky. (AP) - Federal mine officials have cited an
eastern Kentucky mine operator that runs a mine where a man died in
a fall in January.
Authorities say Roy D. Sturgill, 29, died Jan. 8 after his truck
backed over a dumping point and continued to go down the slope.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration says the mine should
have had an adequate berm in place that would help drivers know
when they back up near an edge. The federal agency issued two
negligence citations for the incident at Blue Ridge Surface mine in
Letcher County. The mine is run by Cumberland River Coal.
State officials have issued multiple citations in the incident.
