UK Students Mark Anniversary Of Virginia Tech Massacre

Today marks a somber anniversary for people across the country. One year ago Wednesday, a student opened fire in a building on the Virginia Tech campus, killing 32 people, including students and teachers.

Vigils, gatherings and moments of silence were held on the Virginia Tech campus to remember the lives lost.

The anniversary is also being marked here in the bluegrass.

Many students at the University of Kentucky are reaching out to those at Virginia Tech.

They're signing a banner, placed outside Blanding towers, to show support. The banner will later be sent to Blacksburg, VA.

A candlelight vigil is also planned for Wednesday night at 7:15 to remember the victims.

There's also a prayer tent near the Blanding towers that will be open 24 hours a day until Sunday.

I just wanted to let you know that there were some inaccuracies in what was reported... (1) The prayer tent is a Christian prayer tent. We love everyone and do want unity in Christ, but it is not an "all beliefs" prayer tent. (2) It was a prayer vigil, not a candlelight vigil, due to the university expressing concerns about having open flames anywhere near the dormitories. (3) The prayer tent is open for the week in general, not because of the tragedy; we are simply reaching out to another hurting campus as a part of this week of prayer. Several campuses across the state are participating in this week of 24/7 prayer together, including UK, and this was just one event that tent hosted. I just thought you'd want to know that while it was greatly appreciated that a news station I grew up watching came to our university's prayer tent it was worth noting that the heart of what we're doing and why failed to get mention. People that do things like this after tragedys are nuts. Seriously the same people that put little US flags on their cars and drove them in the rain and kept driving till the flag was a rag and eventually threads. This type of thing makes me sick to be in this country.
