A church member of Victory Time Full Gospel Church on Anniston Drive, received a letter from her pastor stating she would lose her church membership if she did not pay her tithes within the next thirty days.

Emma Hafferkamp says her friend has been distraught ever since she received the letter on Wednesday.

"In the letter, it says she had only tithed twice last year and she needed to pay her tithes within thirty days or her name would be removed from the membership list," Haffercamp told 27NEWSFIRST.

Haffercamp says the church means everything to her friend and the thought of losing her membership made her sick.

"She was so upset last night, she had like an anxiety attack. They called the ambulance and she went to the hospital", Hafferkamp said.

She also says her friend cannot afford to tithe because she is about eighty years old, on a fixed income and lives in subsidized housing.

The letter does say the church member is still welcome to attend church services but will not be a member if she does not start tithing.

We went to the church to speak to the pastor but no one answered the door and our repeated calls to him have gone unanswered.

Preachers have no authority to throw Christians out of Church! They were put into Christ's body by Christ Himself and are kings and priests unto Him (I Pet.2:5,9)Tithes consisted ONLY of agricultural produce (Lev.27:30). Tithing was part of the law, and was given ONLY to the children of Israel (Lev.27:30-34). Only the children of Levi were authorized by God to take tithes (Heb.7:5), not Gentiles. Far from being cursed for non-tithing, you come under spiritual bondage by keeping any part of the Old Law after Christ has set you free (Gal.5:1). If one law (tithing) is binding, all the rest of them are, including animal sacrifices, pigeon offerings, kosher food laws, etc.(Gal.5:3). Galatians 3:10 warns us that going back to the Law of Moses carries a curse, not a blessing. Even in the OT, priests did not pay tithes to each other! Jesus mentioned tithing HERBS ONLY BEFORE THE CROSS and WHILE UNDER THE LAW. He called tithing a MATTER OF THE LAW (Matt.23:23). We are under grace, not law (Rom.6:14-15; Gal.5:18). http://banpreachergreed.tripod.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KUu7g8fvWI

Actually matt. 23;23 states, although their are more important things, tithing is something God requires.

Yes I do have a record according to the state of Ky but according to Gods word he said I'll cast your sins as far as east is from the west to be rembered no more. You see my record with the state dont matter that much the record that matters is the one with God. So to let this person know the people I pastor know I plead guilty to a felony charge I ashamed of my past but God forgot so that's all that matters.

If there is a way, according to by-laws or Articles of Incorporation, fire that pastor. This pastor is in danger according to James 2:13 For he will have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy, and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. Why does the pastor know who pays tithes and who don't he should have NO assess to those records at all. Here is the problem, a pastor operating outside his calling. His call is to preach not be a church clerk. He should have never known aboaut the tithes. Also, why would a 'sane' pastor be that cruel. He certainly has a problem and does not have the capability or compassion to lead a group of people.

I agree that people should support their church and that it is a sin not to tithe your 10%. However if a pastor has that much stress ove the bills, salaries and expenses then he is not trusting that God will provide. He is putting his faith in the church members. The letter this senior lady received was horrible. ANY church that would remove you from the membership for not paying tithe - is no church you should attend. We are responsible to God - not the Pastor of the church. She could have paid in cash. A pastor should NEVER look at who is or who is not tithing.

When Jesus died on the cross He didn't leave me owing 10%. I really feel sorry for those who are claiming that He did. There is NO commandment given to the New testatment believer to tithe. Do you know there are people who don't go to church because they don't have the money to tithe and know they will be persecuted? We need a non-tithing truth teaching movement to break out!
