Authorities say 13 horses were barely alive and seven others were found dead on a farm on Irvine Road, in Clark County.

The county attorney has charged the owner with 20 counts of cruelty to animals. The owner of the farm, Linville Davis, says he's shocked by the allegations and says his horses were always fed.

Davis says he doesn't know what killed the horses that were found dead on the property.

Davis will be arraigned on the charges Monday. Authorities tells us the horses were taken to a local veterinarian.

anonymous i have 6 horses 1 is 23 yrs old owned it that long to the others are from 16 to 4 yrs i usually ride them ever other weekend as for what theyre worth probably more than the house an car you own an yes ive had to kill 2 horses 1 broke its leg in 3 places coulnt be fixed should have let it laid an suffered right? the other was attacked by a pack a coyotes it wasnt a pretty sight should have let it lay an suffer right? my point on shooting is just this anything is better of a quick merciful death than to suffer a least thats the way i see it an if people like you an a few more showed more concern for the abused an hungry children that cant help it or the needy family that lost everything and not by their choice or the elderly living on 5 to $600 a month after maybe working all their life YOU worry about what happens to a beast an dont care about people theres a place for people like you an as for selling horses no i raise cattle you woulnt know the diffrence anyways GODSPEED

Look at this white horse, does it look feed to you. It doesn't to me. I think drugs is the reason people are not feeding their horses.

IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO FEED THEM AND CAN'T GIVE THEM AWAY TO BETTER HOMES--THEN OPEN THE PASTURE GATES AND LET THEM GO. THEY WILL FIND THEIR OWN FOOD.

They need to take these people who don'tthink this is such and issue out and clean up the dead horses and care for the starving ones, it's like taking a teenager to see there friend at the morgue after they were killed drinking and driving, we need some shock treatment, some people are too far removed from the fact that this is a reality, horses are starving at an unbelievable rate. These anti slaughter, tree huggers should be ashamed and should have to go without food for a month.

They better hire Stephen Ownens in Pike County, Kentucky if they want out of it and give him plenty of money and he can get them 6 months and they will walkk away free, like he did the others and take their money and forget everyone elses case to get this one.

looks like the Economy and high gas prices killed these animals. It all trickles down to someone or something that suffers in the end.

Come on people--there is absolutely NO excuse for neglecting an animal. When animals are dependent on a human for survival that human is responsible. That means you plan ahead to make sure you can feed that animal EVERY DAY. I bought hay for winter last June....BEFORE THE DROUGHT HAPPENED!!! If you are unable to care for any animal--get rid of it while you can. It is rediculous for this to happen anywhere, especially in Kentucky's "Horse country". Slaughter is not the answer, either. There are thousands of rescue organizations across the country who will help place animal in homes or even just help provide food to get people through rough times. You can't just pretend the problem doesn't exist. My heart breaks for these poor creatures. The owners should be punished to the fullest extent possible.

Why don't all the thoroughbred owners who made lots of money off horses, callenge each other to donate, and open a rescue for these poor horses. The horses can't help these sorry owners got them. All these sorry people should never be able to own another animal.Race horse owners, give some money back to help these poor horses!

Hmmm it's happened yet again! I wonder why?

This is a statement about all the horses that are being neglected. I fill that if you are going to have these kind of animals everyone knows that in tyhe long run you are going to have to fed and take care of them whether medical care or getting rid of them.

Posted by: Me1 Location: Ky on Apr 19, 2008 at 07:53 AM
If I had horses and 7 of them died...I think I would have a Vet come out and find out why they were sick in the first place. This man stating he don't know why they died is a load of horse crap.Give the animals away or call the humane society yourself and let them come and get the animals. Don't just sit back and let them starve.CRUEL!!!!

just shoot the nags get them out of their misery but thats cruel though there would be nothing for the media an couch farmers to whine about if we did that so open up the slaughter houses theres a market out there somewhere by the way im not a animal hater i own a couple horses dogs an cats myself and a herd of cattle all well took care of because im lucky enough to have had the hay an other feed stored but most farmers dont have that option and seems like the media could find more important stuff to talk about like starving familes an children or our elderly barely getting by but that dont make good news hurts the ratings i guess an seems like if they dont like your comments it dont get printed the truth hurts animals are more important than people to the media an couch farmers thats never seen or been or lived on a farm so grow another set of legs an a tail an you will be took care of if not sorry about your luck

if this man did not know what killed theses horses as he claims;then why didn't he call the police or someone to find out how they died.Maybe he does know why they died but want tell.Funny to me but wonder how long theses horses bodies would still be there if the authorities had not find them. Its not like they died over nite.

come on people this is getting out of hand if you cant feed them give them away to someone who can i know feed is going up but that is no reason to starve horses how could you or any one else lay down at night knowing that your horse was starving are you the devil i hope the laws get harder on you people there is no reason for this

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 18, 2008 at 11:22 PM
What killed them is NOT FEEDING THEM
