UK Board Of Trustees To Vote On Proposed Tuition Hike

Students at the University of Kentucky could be one step closer to paying higher tuition bills next school year.

The Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on new tuition rates at a meeting Tuesday afternoon.

UK President Dr. Lee Todd has proposed in-state students pay 9% more next school year.

He has also proposed not to grant any pay raises for faculty and staff.

Todd has said tuition increases are necessary because the university will lose $20 million in state money under a tightened state budget.

The Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patterson Office Tower.

They make how much? Are they a part of the leaders in the housing crisis?

Of course they voted for an increase, I could have told you the outcome without them even having to hold the meeting. Have you ever heard of them voting to lower tuition????

The satff at UK will be asked to do more in the upcoming year with less money. I think Lee Todd needs to research the cost of living and get a real look at how bad things are for the staff.

If they raise tuition then they need to have better instructors, not graduate students(that way we get the education we are paying for)! A tuition increase is okay IF it is going to the students' and actual teachers' needs and NOT all or most of it to the athletics department. I'm a huge UK fan myself and very proud of them all, but there is a stopping point to how much money the coaches and athetics dir. make. (from mitch barnhart makes $475,000 and an instructor in the edu. dept is making $206,000 (this is one that is teaching future teachers)! And people in the college of medicine making $441,000 (taught/teaching our doctors and future doctors) Do we not see a problem with this? I personally do! This is crazy, we need to pay the instructors/teachers/doctors more than what the athletic dept. people are making because they are well worth it and probably do more than what the AD does! I don't understand the thinking of the boards that decide on things like this!

My question is why just in-state students paying? What is percent amount for out of state students and foreign students? Also if they made the basketball players and students that leave during their scholarship time- pay back that amount of money they have spend on them - they have money also. I know that there could be cuts without raising in state student cost.

If it's a major research university==where is everything? What are they researching? Energy seems kind of high==what are they doing? A paper on it?
