Increased Demand Causes Shortage In Rice

The price for white rice has increased nearly 68-percent since the beginning of the year. Because the staple food is transported all across the U.S., fuel cost is partly to blame for the price hike.

Sam's Club has announced that consumers will be limited to purchasing only four bags of rice per person. This is to prevent bulk purchases of the product which may lead to a shortage.

Restaurants are also feeling the effects of the price increase.

Mike Maloney, I-Ching store owner, says, " If it doesn't come down, it will be reflected in how much we're serving and potentially what we're charging for it, unfortunately."

This is known to be the worst food inflation in over 17 years.
