Lexmark To Provide Laser Printers To Air Force

LEXINGTON, KY -- Printer maker Lexmark International Inc. said Friday it will provide laser printers along with other products and support to the Air Force under a five-year, blanket purchase agreement.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Lexmark, based in Lexington, said the contract is expected to reduce the Air Force's total output-related costs by more than $40 million.

Lexmark noted that it will offer the Air Force a set of product security features verified by the National Information Assurance Partnership, including common access card authentication, encryption and hard disk wiping capabilities.

The Air Force is making the wrong choice. Lexmark printers are poor in quality. The consumer printers as well as the business printers. They rank among the worst. The Air Force should of gone with a more reputable printer such as HP. I am sure the Air Force will figure it out within time.

Yeah - give em" the cheap printers and charge em" $100-$200 for the toner cartridges! THEN tell them that if they use any other cartridge the warranty (what little there is) will not be valid. PLUS the printer will not functin properly. Been there done that. Too bad the AF got "hooked into" this contract. Best of luck to ya. Kentucky born and raised, left at 17, joined the Navy - retired after 20 years and 8 days....I had many - MANY problems with LEXMARK printers. (Worked in logistics). Voided warranty - "MUST BUY" our cartridges, blah....blah....blah. Would love to see more money come to the Bluegrass; however, they NEED to make a more compatible printer. A printer that ONLY uses 1 type of cartridge (and that cartridge puts your budget in the red) isn't cost effective. Again - Good Luck with Lexmark printers.

As with all companies, Lexmark is out sourcing. They need to keep their employees here because it's good for the bluegrass.

Great news for Lexmark and they needed some. Now if there is someway that we can keep them in Lexington and not the Philippines.
